Dancing and Hiking, OH MY!
Friday Night Dancing
Heather and Antonio, the salsa teachers here, invited all of us salsa students to their house for a party friday night. It was awesome!!! They had made peruvian food (where Antonio is from), which was excellent. Several different dishes, nearly all of which were awesome. I wasn't so fond of the one with raw fish in it, but that was entirely due to the raw fish, the rest of the dish was very good, kind of tangy and spicy. :D yum yum. They had made a peruvian drink, kind of like a punch, made with red corn. It was very good. Heather compared the taste to bubblegum with pineapple, but I don't think that's a very fair comparison. Not certain how I'd describe it, maybe a decent tasting koolaid with more flavor. Anyways, then there was lots of dancing on their tiny little living room floor which could hold a surprising amount of dancers. I think we had up to about 20 people dancing at the same time after awhile. It didn't allow for any super fancy moves, but we managed to put in plenty anyways. :) The music was great and basically every song was supplemented with people on maracas or various drums and other latin instruments. It was a blast. I slept well that night. :D
Saturday Hiking
I finally got to go on the hike I've been waiting rather impatiently for!!! Tim and I hiked up over Thunder mountain and down the other side to the glacier. It was soooooo absolutely beautiful!!! I took so many pictures, 320 to be exact. I'm going to try to get those on my website here soon. It was a very nice day for a hike: somewhere around 60 degrees and high clouds. Perfect weather. And the alpine meadows were simply gorgeous. I really felt like I was in a whole new world. And it was so quiet after we got over the top into the alpine meadow valley. Just the high pitched squeals of marmots every so often and the stupid helicopters that flew over or back every 20 minutes or so. It was so beautiful. Words simply cannot describe it and the pictures only capture a very basic idea of it.
One thing the pictures do do well is remind me how much I absolutely want to hike up there again but take a slightly different trail at the top. There's a peak on the opposite side of the valley that looks so beautiful and tempting. Tim and I both wanted to hike it today, but the clouds are too low. Well, for now I guess all we can do is hope that next weekend is nicer. *crossing fingers* Oh well, we'll go to dance practice instead. And speaking of such, it's time for me to get some clothes on and go to that. Good day all!
